It’s indeed with a great honor and pleasure that in the name of my colleagues, the ECOWAS Countries’ Ambassadors, I take the floor to introduce, although for sure she doesn’t need any introduction, our Dear Sister, and Colleague and above all our Boss, the Assistant Secretary for African Affairs, Her Excellency Ambassador Linda Thomas- Greenfield.
Today’s Remark is not just to recall the outstanding and rich diplomatic career and experience of the Assistant Secretary for whom, the many development issues as well as Social issues, Economic issues and Security issues on our Continent have no secret at all.
It’s not a secret as well to say that two years ago, the entire African Diplomatic Corps was so delighted to hear that Linda as we call her with a lot of affection, was the one who was going to be chosen by President Obama to succeed Ambassador Johnnie Carson who was preparing to retire.
Our delight became a real excitement on August 6, 2013, the day of her Swearing in Ceremony that we all attended at the State Department since nobody wanted to miss the event.
The way Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield conducted with great professionalism, dedication and commitment, her previous functions, be it in her capacity of:
Director General of the Foreign Services and Human Resources,
Deputy Assistant Secretary,
Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary
Ambassador to Liberia or
US Diplomat in so many countries such as: Nigeria, the Gambia, Jamaica, Kenya, Pakistan, Switzerland, gave us the conviction and the certitude that President Obama has made the right and best choice for the function, and the best choice for us as well.
The preparation and the organization in August last year of the first and historic US-Africa-Leaders’ Summit, were once more the additional proof and testimony that she is and she has always been one of the great Champions and Advocates of the cause of the promotion of the US-African Relations.
Excellency, Dear Assistant Secretary,
We African Ambassadors and today, ECOWAS Countries Ambassadors would like to recognize your professionalism, your commitment and dedication.
You have always believed in our Continent which is endowed with huge resources.
You have always been besides us even during hard times and you have been patient and comprehensive to help our countries find their ways in the narrow path of Democracy, Good Governance, Rule of Law, Economy, Development, Security, Peace enforcement and Free Press ect…
And today many of our countries are on the right way, making progress in these areas in view of a peaceful, stable and prosperous Africa.
In recognition of all what you’ve done and for sure what you’ll continue to do with your high profile diplomatic expertise and for your great contribution to the enhancement of the relations between the USA and our Countries, we would like you to accept this AWARD.
We do this in testimony of your long and outstanding dedication to the cause of our Continent and particularly of the ECOWAS Countries, while thanking you for your tremendous achievement in matter of tightening US-African and particularly US-ECOWAS Countries’ relations.
Congratulations Dear Assistant Secretary
Ambassador of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire to the US
